OH, YES, about that and another illness they no NOTHING about but think they do! Sorry, I've decided there are more annoying a-holes out there than there are nice people.

Ask them if they heard of staying out of other people's business. You didn't ask for their advice or opinion.

I have always called these people "The Diabetic Food Police"!!!! They are extremely annoying and I totally understand how you feel. I double hate it when I have something in my hand or get ready to pick something up to eat or drink and their comment is"Should you be eating/drinking that? Or Are you allowed to eat/drink that?" I used to seethe inside and hold it back. Now, if possible, I just try to ignore them (that is easier said than done I know!) or just reply with "My dr. says it is fine" and walk away. I know that doesn't always work, but I still try whenever possible to do it!

yes the food police think they have a license to talk about whatever they don't know LOL.

I once heard a young child tell his mother had btes and she could not eat what she was picking up and he was telling daddy !. Naturally I had to say something since the mother looked so upset at this child (good think I look like an ole lady and can get away with this) I asked him if he had his food police badge since he was not allowed without it, and then explained to the mother about the food labels, etc (and yes she could have the item she picked up as long as she didn't eat the whole box) and she was only 20 years old with a very bossy 4 year old and didn't need more stress.

What about a 50-something bossy wife? I have one of those.....

Long time friend was diagnosed 10+years ago. She uses the "my dr says I'm managing fine" line which usually shuts up all but the most clueless. I was there to overhear one of the clueless respond "well, maybe you need another doctor". My friend said to her "maybe you can suggest someone competent - perhaps someone in your practice or that you went to medical school with?" Clueless lady said "I'm not in the medical field". So friend said, after a couple second pause "and yet, you still had to give me your opinion twice?"

The thing is, sometimes the clueless still miss anything more subtle than an admonishment to stfu.

Fhedrick - I have a mid 60s bossy husband, but I shut him up by mentioning his heart disease and what he eats lol. In the beginning he told me I had diabetes because I ate chocolate ROFL...now that caused so much fun in the house that night

Look away and don't say anything. That's a pretty big clue that you don't want to discuss the subject. Plus, they can better hear how bossy/opinionated/rude they sound much better if they're the only ones yammering.

My husband is the food/ medicine police....Meanwhile he will scarf down a delicious looking philly cheesesteak and guzzle down a pepsi while telling me what I can have, needless to say he gets an ear full from me :)

I am with you..I hate for people to tell me what I should and shouldn't eat without them being a diabetic or having without have MD behind their name.

It amazes me the number of people who are now "doctors" of nothing who once they hear I am a diabetic what to tell me what i can have and what I can't have. They always feel sorry for me because I can't eat normal, regular food and must always eat diabetic type foods. I have tried to explained that I can eat whatever I want as I follow my carbs, but it isn't worth my time, which is precious and which I can't get back if I waste it on them. I was in a skilled nursing facility and tried telling the kitchen staff that I follow a carb diet and they almost put me in a coma everynight for over 4 weeks as they either couldn't or wouldn't follow my regular nurse's or my instructions on providing me snacks and food that I could eat. I have chosen to ignore them. I hope that this is readable as my fingers are numb from my neuropathy and I can barely type and am fed up with proofreading after I have typed, but don't waste your time on these type of people as they know it all or they just want to let you know that they know more than you do or think that they do. Or they have your best interest at heart. You can choose whichever makes you feel better. I choose to ignore them. haha

Thanks for the input everyone! I didn't know there were quite so many know-it-alls out there. Good to know I am not alone.
