From my experience it can be either of two,
1) Side effect of the medication which leads to irritable bowel syndrome.

2) Detoxification process which lasts for a few weeks when you stop eating sugary or processed foods.

My doc gave ma e 10 day antibiotic course and since then its been easy. What kind of emotional stress are you going through since that also has a lot to do with your tummy.

We have all slipped, just like those millions of people who have done likewise on weight loss diets, or while trying to quit smoking. Mistakes teach us, so we learn what we can, and move on.

As to side effects of meds, that's one for your doctor to answer. I know Metformin causes diarrhea in some, but it was never a problem for me. We are each different in what we can and can't tolerate, and a doctor can be the one to sort it out for each of us.

Glad to see this thead because I was going to start one on this medication I was given today, August 5, 2015 by my doctor. I could take the shot once a week but my insurance won't pay for it. My doctor's office will give me the one shot a day stuff free. Itis very new, being introduced in January 2015. Some can tolerate it after a couple weeks and some can't. I feel, really I KNOW, if I had taken better care of my body and food I wouldn't be at this point in my life.
It causes weight loss which is the good thing. I have researched it and read reviews, etc. I am going to start a thread about this and ask if anyone else is on it.
I will still be on both medications plus shot for at least a week then I may be able to stop the 2 mg of glizepride and stay with the Metforim 1000 mg 2 times a day plus shot.
I need both knees replaced and need to lose 100 -110 lbs. plus get my A1C down from 7 to 6 or below before surgery.
She said to pinch some fat in my stomach and give myself the shot starting with 0.6 then going up after that I think to 1.8. Little sad and a litle scared.

I've been on Victoza since Januuary 2015. I do think it came out a little bit before then, but not much. The first month was brutal. I would have bouts of nausea every day, but that went away. My problem with bowels is not IBS but constipation. My BG has gone way down and is always in the good range these days. It has decreased my appetite and I have not experienced any cravings for sweets. I've lost a total of 38 pounds since I've been on it (wooohooo). It's great not to be overweight any more. Just FYI I also take Levimire (long term insulin) at night.

Ter1, I had the same problem when I began the meds and diet change and wanted to pass this along. Psyllium husks, a natural fiber, quickly solved that problem for me. An additional benefit is it also brings down the numbers. I have a serving in water (not tasty, but goes down quick) daily usually with my highest carb meal. As it is just a fiber supplement, no side effects. Make sure you're drinking enough water, and hopefully it will work as well for you.

I have a friend on this, her doctor is trying to get her off one of the insulins and she is getting good results but I have not heard her mention as side effects.

When diagnosed, my a1c was 8. Took metformin for a while, but had horrible diarrhea as a side effect. My doc switched me to Victoza.. My experience has been great! I lost 68 lbs, no more diarrhea, and my a1c is 5.2. I would like to lose 20 more lbs, and think if I stopped cheating with the sweets, I would. Lol.
