Hello, my doctor wants me to go on Trulicity. I have been on metformin for some time but I have gone through a lot this past year and a half and have let myself go. I have read a lot of negative things about Trulicity and I was curious if anyone in this support group has tried it yet.

I've never heard of Trulicity. Is it a newer drug??

Look it up....very new drug just approved by the FDA on 9-18-2014. it has a lot of bad side effects like thyroid cancer, pancreatitus and other problems.

I stay away from these new drugs ... not going to be their guinea pigs...

Okay, if it has so many side effect, why was it approved? I research anything that the Doctor tells me to take.

That's a new one. Way new. I like to stick to tried and true medications that have a great history. Metformin affects some and they can't take it, but if you can take metformin without issue I'd ask my dr why he wants to change the medication. Does he know you've let yourself go? Maybe he doesn't understand a change in labs are due to you and choices you've made (if that's the case) and maybe he thinks you need a new medication. Maybe talking with him you'll get the answers you need.

knuckle......all drugs are put out into the general population to see how they work overall. Most people are very trusting and do not do research before popping what the doc says. Guess they figure out that is how they do their clinical trials for free after trying it on a few volunteers first.

First off, the FDA is not without error believe me. I worked at a blood center in Quality Assurance. The FDA now approves a lot of people taking certain drugs to be giving blood and they should not be. The standards have lowered. I can say if anyone plans to have an operation and think they may use blood for it then call and give your own weeks ahead of time. At least this way you know it is safe. (they call it an autologous donor, you can also give it for a friend or relative, they label it and send it off to the hospital)

EEEEK -- I was just advised to go on this by my doctor yesterday. She said the only side effect is weight loss! Holy moly.

Thanks everyone for your imput. I think for the time being I am going to pass on taking Trulicity. I have started back on low carb and I am trying to exercise more. The side effects are just to scary and I am not a big fan of taking a drug that it so new on the market.
