Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Hi, my fasting blood sugar has been around 106 or 107. Doc considers me pre-diabetic. I am attempting to avoid becoming a full-blown diabetic through eating low-carb and being mindful of the Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load.
Since the beginning of 2015 I have lost over 50 lbs. Recently I hit a plateau where I couldn't lose any more. I need to lose at least 30 more lbs. I decided to try an Atkins type diet. I am NOT going to do the Induction Phase of only 20 grams of carb per day. That is too extreme, especially since I am bipolar and can't afford to mess with my serotonin levels. I have read that a "ketogenic" diet (a diet low enough in carbs to cause ketosis and force the body to burn its stored fat) is defined as 20 to 50 grams of carb per day. I am training myself to eat 40 to 45 gms. of carb. That's well within the range.
I will see my doc again in June to get blood sugar and A1C tests. In the meantime, anyone here doing a low-carb lifestyle?

It's bedtime but I heated up some coffee to take my pills with and made a fresh pot so I can have some as soon as I wake up tomorrow a.m. I've been on a roll for 2 days with cleaning and getting other stuff done. I bought a new cell phone about a week ago and I've been having some issues. I stopped at Verizon and a nice young man jumped in to help. As a result, I was able to get an iced...

Exercise also helps with blood sugar levels. I would tell your doctor what your doing. It sounds unhealthy to eat so few carbs in a day. Eat small portions. Skip white rice, bread, potatoes. Eat whole grain foods. It's normal to plateau when looking weight. Up your exercise some, keep watching what you eat and you should start looking again.
