Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I can't say this enough but I will say it again, it took you a long time to develop the disease and it will take you a while to get it under control, my friend! You have already come a very long way ok? Keep it up and soon you will be answering questions like this!!!
cheers,
lary
Yes i have been on med only for 5 days .so my question was that does the bs level have to stay close to 100 regardless of whatever you eat .so is that how it was before we became diabetic .
Yes your levels will fluctuate throughout the day and most people people would be ecstatic with a 100 fasting reading.
I have just been to my educator in preparation for my insulin (I wish I could take the drugs ----sigh!!!) Oh yes now where was I?
Oh that's right - she told me that as long as my levels were between 100 - 180 that was OK - with an aim for around 130 and a HbAiC of 110 + or-
But every doctor has their own ideas and guidelines and you need to listen to yours and not your friend. Sorry he might be a good friend but unless he is a trained doctor he should never suggest you stop taking your meds.
Do not listen to just anyone when they suggest making a medicine change(I know many think they are just helping, making suggestions) we will even tell you don't do it without talking to your doctor...it takes time for the meds to work, and based on your 3 month A1C tests, your doctor will make the decision about coming off meds to try diet and exercise only or if you may need more meds
So do test after 2 hr, I know in the begining everyone gets curious and even I have been guilty of "premature testing" lol, and trust me sometimes I would be shocked so I don't do it lol
