Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Some other people have diseased pancreas that no longer produce the insulin we need to process the healthy carbs even and that is a different story.
I'm really glad that you got yours under control and don't have to take meds now. I know a few people who are able to be careful with diet and exercise and are okay. I have to struggle along to try to keep my bs level under 200 and hopefully under 150, and idealy my fasting at around 100.

My brother is able to control it so that it doesn't control him. He was diagnosed in 9/2007 and by November he was no longer on medicationz. He eliminated everything that was white and rightly so because his thumb would go numb when he ate crackers. He wanted to get off ALL of his meds.
My Dad, age 88, WAS taking 2 and today is on Metformin only and controlling it with diet and small exercise by walking around the block twice a day. I don't know what his A1C is tho.
The MEDIA started labeling it as Remission instead of controlling.
remission tends to be used with cancer patients more so and other diseases, the disease becomes inactive, usually it's temporary and the same would be with diabetes, except if you don't continue to watch carbs exercise, etc you will experience high numbers almost immediately.
The key is the word 'disease'. A disease goes into remission, but out of control blood sugar is more a disorder. There may be disease in the pancreas that causes the blood sugar to be uncontrolled.
I hope that helps.
