Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I have had this for 17 years but about 8 years ago my diabetes decided to really go wild and out of control thanks to a stressful time in my life (yes stress can mess with diabetes) and I shot up to about 1000 with an A1C of 18 !!! why I was not put into the hospital or even end up in a coma, doctors had no idea but I also went thru the emotions and got quick control once again.
So this is a life long process, but you can do this, it does take time and sometimes you might be thrown for a loop but just face it head on.
I have lost 30 lbs (looking good) and my numbers were 244 in the doctors office and my first A1C was 7.4. I had a bladder/kidney infection which is what brought me to the doctor in the first place and that is when it was discovered I was full blown diabetic. I changed the changes right away and my numbers are now 100-117.
It was my birthday yesterday and I cheated just a little (had a 1/4 cup of cranberry apple crisp bake as well as 1/2 cup of cream of mushroom soup. Thought it would throw my numbers off the chart.....but my numbers were excellent this morning :)
I do believe I've got the hang of this....however....I will not get too confident and cocky as I know that things can go south quickly. I'm just gonna enjoy my extra energy and better health (weight loss too) while I can.
I give you (and me) a ^5 for our excellent attitudes and changes.
Falling off the wagon? You betcha! Have done that a number of times. Then back on track. Right now my numbers run an 'average' of 130 (which 'my' Primary Doctor, and my Endo are pleased with. My A1C is '6'.
I am on a Heart AND a Diabetic Diet. I HATE it of course, lolol.
Stress a factor? Absolutely!!! Among a number of other things. You're doing well. Continue with the attitude and the effort. Best of luck!
