Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
There are no instant solutions once you accept the fact that you have the disease, and make your mind up to be careful, and follow what the experts, real experts tell you, then guess what, you will find yourself getting better, but you will always be a diabetic. Ray, I am going to borrow a page from mzizgayle's book. Go and look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself, "I am a diabetic and I am going to do all that I can to help make sure that I eat properly and get my blood sugar under control. I will exercise and do everything that I can so that I can lead a normal happy life. Accept that you are the one who has to control this and no number of books or experts know how your diabetes affects you!
Please be careful, besides, I owe you a lunch

Ray, the only way things will be hunkey dorey is if you follow a balanced diet, eating properly and exercisine, and of course take your meds, and developed a good relationship with your doctor (this is very important)and do this every day, in time you will know this is just normal to you
I know friends mean well, and there are so many food police out there watching what you eat, and of course the do gooders who think they have the cure and take this vitamin and that herb and you will never have to worry...if that was the case....there would be no need for this site or others,
Before I was officially diagnosed, I did eat heart healthy since hubby has heart disease and it is easier to prepare the same meals for everyone in the family instead of 2 types. We exercised, we went hiking in our mountains, even attempted Mount Washington, a famous area in our area, my weight was very good, not overweight, but because of family history and just because the Diabetes alien wanted to try and control another person, I also developed diabetes.
So all the cures, books that offer cures, herbs etc, just stay away from...granted there are some that could help for people, cinnamon seems to help some a little..I have tried it and didn't notice any difference
It is tough, we all know this, to try and handle so much, many of us, along with you also must deal with other complications, it is scarey, it is frustrating but I and I am sure others will agree, if we must have diabetes then it will live within on our terms...
what to eat at i hop restaurant for breakfast . also has anyone heard a book by dr bernard about diabetes .
thanks
I haven't read Dr. Bernard's book, but I'd suggest that any book you're interested in reading, read it in conjunction with what your diabetes educators tell you and make educated decisions. We're on a brand new road, and people tend to want to take the 'easiest and quickest' way possible but, unfortunately for those of us on the Type 2 path, the long, slow slogging onward is the best way to continue the trip. Thank goodness we have all these wonderful people here to help us on our journey.
And btw - I don't know if there's anything at IHoP that's good for anyone, much less a diabetic!! (but that's my prejudice against the place ;) lol)
cheers,
lary
thanks

Ray I know you think that we are all party poopers etc etc here but we have lived with this disease for years - in my case I am coming up to a 8th year anniversary of struggling. And I have had times when I have had excellent results and times when they have been bad and everything in between.
As was said in one other post here (sorry don't have time to look it up right now as the animals need to be fed) one day you will be the one answering the questions that newly diagnosed will be asking.
Remember this......IF it sounds too good to be true (do this or that and you will be cured) then it probably is.
So far there is no cure - only control available.
OK time to feed the mob and take the insulin. TTYL, Marg
