Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
By the same token I wouldn't do what your friend does either.
As long as your levels are good and relatively stable I think that having some rice OR bread once in a while would be OK.
Would certainly pay to test it out a few times to find out how your body reacts to them.
The sugars?
Probably a wise thing to avoid them as much as you can.
I can eat bread every day (low GI multigrain or wholemeal and grains) usually one slice and I do have low GI potatoes and white rice - never both on the same day and only a small serve and with protein.
It is important to have some protein with every meal according to my diabetic nurse. Even if it is just a few nuts like almonds.
For me I can't have milk or fruit (though I do have a strawberry when I am watering and weeding the garden ------LOL) as they send my levels up.
Just keep eating and testing things and you will find what will work for you and what won't.
And yes moderate exercise and losing weight is always a good idea for every one.
Yes Ray, Haagen daz is off the list ROFL...have you actually read that label, try Edie's brand of icecream...you can find many with only 17 carbs or so providing you stick with the portion control
My brother has that same attitude about doing what ever he wants, he is now on an insulin pump, convinced his doctor to provide him with extra insulin so he can add to this on top of the pump, has many bad issues resulting from the diabetes....And the next time he makes fun of you because you do care about your self, ignore him and just smile at him, all the while knowing you are probably a whole healthier and will probably live longer without the complications he will discover down the road
I do not like my sugars spiking as that will give me problems with other physical problems that I have.
But as I say - everyone is different and it is a matter of working out what works for you, me and the rest.
Ray you will figure it out..trial and error, as some one said we all are different... when it comes to Carbs and how they act..just keep a record, exercise, test, take your Meds and enjoy life.
