Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Hi there - new to this forum - I am ashamed to say that I dropped the ball on being diligent about my glucose levels for the past couple years. It is too long a story.
Three years ago I was put on Metformin to help with PCO (poly cystic ovary) symptoms, so I could try to get pregnant. This was not successful, and plummetted me into denial and minor depression. I stopped the metformin treatment and also testing my blood sugar. I did try to stick to a low glycemic diet, but my efforts were sporatic at best. I also have chronic back pain and fibromyalgia, so my pyhysical activities have been severly limited, too.
Now I have "woken up" and I find that my blood sugar levels are much elevated - 140-155 fasting. I was on the Nutrisystem diet (low glycemic) last year and lost thirty pounds, but the holidays really stopped my progress and I have not been able to get back in charge of things again. I think that if I get back on this diet I will start to feel much better again.
Anyway, glad to find this forum. Hoping it will help me keep on track better.
God bless,
SimoneM

A friend sent this to me..As far as I can see, grief will never truly end.It may become softer overtime, more gentleand some days will feel sharp. But grief will last as long as Love does - ForeverIt's simply the way the absence of your loved onemanifests in your heart. A deep longing accompaniedby the deepest Love some days. The heavy fog mayreturn and the next day, it may recede.Once again, it's...

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
So yes, I thought I was invincibale. I'm ashamed that I lost it. I'm an adult...I know better, and it almost cost me my life and family...daughters whom I love, a wonderful husband.
So don't be ashamed, just turn it around...your knkowledgable..fall back on that. I also am following a low glycemic diet, on my own with the help of the New Glucose Revolution Low GI guide books by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller. Its helping. Good luck, and if you ever need a friend to listen/understand, i'm here and i've been there and done that!!
I have started with NutriSystem again, kind of modified for my lifestyle. It is tough because I work in the evenings. I was having a tendacy to eat dinner with my husband after 10 p.m. at night, and whatever those choices were shooting my blood sugar right up overnight.
I am usually pretty hungry after work, so it would not work to not eat at all. But I have to learn to eat more lightly. With Nutrisystem, it is a matter of switching around the meal packs.
I would like to look up that book you mentioned - I will try Amazon. Thanks for the info.
God bless,
SimoneM

Working nights? Yuck. God bless you...tried it once..couldn't switch the internal body clock. Keep me posted...I'm here to listen and try the book, it was so interesting...and then you wont need to spend the money on nutrisystem -lol!
I understand how you feel even though I haven't had such a hard time as you. I don't need to put myself in that spot either. If I don't start now it will only get worse.
And, unfortunately, if you fall off the wagon once, it is really easy to fall off again. We really need COMMITTMENT to keep to our healthy diet and exercise program, because it IS the quality of our life we are talking about!
I do not have children, so I will not be a grandma; but the one thing I do want is to GROW OLD with my husband. I think we need a "why" in order to drum up the committment and discipline.
Is this fleeting pleasure, this piece of fudge or cake or mashed potatoes really worth the cost of growing old with your husband, or being a grandma or spending time with your family?
Okay, that is my motivational speech for the day - lol.
Have found that a Low Glycemic Diet is helping me. I've lost 7 lbs and in 4 weeks have brought sugars down to 95-140. Better than 400! When I said in a previous post it was shameful - I meant that we KNOW what we need to do, and we ALLOW ourselves to slowly slip up. I hope I didn't come aross as saying you need to be ashamed! Not what I had intended!
