My First Insulin Injection

Hi Everybody...Meow,

Tonight, I took my first insulin injection. It was a Levemir Pen, but I was scared to death. Finally, I stuck the needle in my tummy.

It didn't hurt at all. I was scared for nothing.

Gotta take 10 units now, at bedtime.

Hope everybody's first time is as easy as mine.

Now, I hope the insulin does what the pills couldn't...bring down my sugar despite taking Prednisone.

Anybody else take Levemir? Has it helped?

Hi buttercup kitty,

I am preparing (mentally) to begin my regimen with the Levemir pen for the first time also. While I am not afraid of needles and have no concerns regarding that aspect, I am still trying to adjust mentally to the whole upheaval of my lifestyle (most of it good now). I was prescribed 20 units at bedtime as my sugar is extremely high and has been for ??? Kudos for your bravery and overcoming your fears.

once you get passed the first, then you will be fine. Took me almost 15 minutes and a couple of fails to bring myself to test my blood sugars LOL....but now I do so without even thinking

I take 24 units of Lantus every night and yes, it does help.

Well you are not alone thats for sure. I statred on Levemir but it does not work for me so my endocrinologist switched me to Lantus SoloStar. I hate sticking myself because I have a fear of needles and pain. But I am doing some of my injections, but when I can get other peopele to stick I do as often as possible because my stomach is sore and tired from all the sticks. Have only tried my thigh once and it wasn't so bad, but the neck time I tried it hurt like the dickents. Kudos to you!!!

Thanks, friends, for all your encouragement. I just took my 3rd injection, and it didn't hurt. Yesterday's shot was in my right ab, and it did slightly hurt. The left side of ab doesn't hurt at all.

My goal is to decrease the pills. I currently take 2000 Metfor and 6mg of Glimepiride. I'm hoping the 10mg Levemir works soon.
