Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I picked up some Great Value Bran Flakes from Walmart when I was there, and they are 23 grams of carbs with 5 grams of fiber.
I saw a cereal at Lucky super market ( a norhtern California chain) and I can't remember the name (something like fiber alive or something like that and it was 25 grams of carbs but 15 grams were fiber, so the net result would be 10 grams of carbs per 1/2 cup).
Just bacon and eggs...which works for me...more or less...
I was tired of high numbers , 2 hours after eating farina...
Do I miss the cereal ?
Not really...
I also have a piece of !00% wheat toast and a glass of water and a cup of coffee with milk and Splenda.
For a while I put Brad Buds on my cereal but I think it has more sugar content.
If I just have cereal and banana without the toast, I am hungry before lunch.
Just bacon and eggs... < < <
I would personally be worried about eating too much cholesterol if I were to eat bacon and eggs more than once a day.
I think for cereal, the basic rule is lower carbs and higher fiber = good, while higher carbs and lower fiber = bad.
And check out the serving size, too. Some of the serving sizes are only 1/2 cup, while some are 3/4 cup, and others are 2/3 cup. So you will have to adjust. For me, I usually eat a full cup of cereal with a full cup of low-fat milk and a sliced kiwi on top, along with coffee and splenda, and my numbers are fine.
I have a mid morning snack of an ounce of cheese and some grapes or another kiwi or something like that about two hours later. That keeps me going until lunch.
Hope this helps.
the regular milk is pasteurized and filled with sugar.
many of the cereals are bad for diabetics and even non diabetics!
There's a fair amount of evidence out there that a low carb diet has a good effect on cholesterol.
Argghhh... that was supposed to say once a WEEK, not once a day.
