Okay so I have a Accu Check Aviva and its always been a good meter.But the last few times Ive used it Ive gotten crazy numbers.Like I tested before dinner and mt reading was 478,dont you know that sent me straight into a panic and i felt like it was low not high.I immediately took it again and it was 99.. So Ihave a Reli-On as a backup meter and I took it using that meter it was 97.

I took sugar before dinner 2 days ago with acu Check and it was 187...i hadnt eaten since lunch and so i took it again it was 99...
Could it be the strips?

Does anyone else have a reli On and do you feel like its accurate?I check sugar and was is 94 the other its 101...Should I chuck them both and go get another new one?

HI blood glucose levels change all the time + or - 10 point in a minute is normal and meters are only reliable to a 10% fluctuation
That's why the HbA1c is the most important reading

if you drop a meter it can become inaccurate, if you are using it day in day out for over a year of so it maybe time for a new model
you can always check it against a friends or the doctors.

I don;t take insulin and don't like taking readings because they always turn out higher than I would like

possible you had something on your fingers ?

Are the test strips out of date, does your meter have to have the code to match the meters?

As Gayle mentioned if you have anything at all on your finger it would throw it off really bad.

I have a reli on and it works great, I also have a one touch ultra that is my favorite now.

I would keep double checkin the meters against a known working one, if you find one off a lot I would toss it.

You can buy control solution to check your meters too.

Strips are good until and I get a new refill this month...I love the Accu Check Aviva and I have had it over a year now.I may just buy a new Accu Check..I bought the Reli On as a back up meter because my Dr says he only wants me to test 2xs a day and i say my diabetes and my body and I will test as often as I feel I need to..

So if I run out of strips before I can refill I use the back up because the strips are cheaper.I think I am goingto see if I can get some control solution and check the Aviva...

Each box of strips come with the little thing to stick in the side to code the meter...Just one more thing about this diabetes to irk my tater... =)

BridgetsMom I used a meter that the Dr. gave me but wow the strips were out of site and I am self pay. Then one of my friends told me about the Reli-On and I have used that brand ever sense. It has been with the Dr's A1C test every time. The Reli-On is made by the Bayer Company.
I heard on the Dr. Oz show (if you can go by him) that you should replace you meter at least every 2 years to keep an up dated meter. They are making the
meters more accurate every year now.

I started out with a Free Style but it didn't seem to be acurate, would get wierd readings. I now have a One Touch Ultra which I like, doctor suggested getting that one and I am pretty close to the doctor's. This is the second one, plus I like gagets and can download to the computer, etc

Have you checked your meter with the control solution? I have the Aviva and I check it every other month, I know I should do it more often, but at least I check it. I have taken mine with me to the doc when he checks,
they check my meter and it is right on the money. I have another meter, just in case, the Accu-chek Advantage, they both read the same.

i asked at the walmart and you they have to order the solution.Should they keep it stocked with all the other diabetes supplies...I am using the reli on for now until i can get control solution or just by another one.the meters are pretty cheap here.I like the pen for the accu check because I only have to reload after 6 pokes verses changin everytime

I talked to someone from Accu check about the readings I was getting and they are sending me a new meter,strips and control solution.I still think its ridiculous that they dont keep solutions at store and has to be ordered.. Oh well

I use a bayer contour. I like that it has a 10 strip disk. It's bigger than some but I can read the numbers w/o my reading glasses.

I use Wallgreens True Track meter. Cost $17.00.

Keeps one year of reading and gives you a 14 and 30 day readings. Uses watch batteries. My last reading was102
