Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

I started this medicine about a month ago. I have been eating WAY less than I was and I just found out that I gained 5 pounds. I started on 15 units and tonight I started on 25. It's not really helping my sugar all that much. Maybe a little. I'm also having horrible horrible arthritis pain in my knees. I guess my question is has anybody else gained weight on this medicine? If so how much and how long did you gain weight for and does the weight gain stabilize? Between the pain and my sugar and my thyroid , I am feeling very very defeated. Thank you for listening.

I was put on the same thing today with 15 units . Don't want to be on insulin but numbers have been high . What kind of foods can we eat being on this ? I am also on Janumet 1,050 MG .My knee felt like it was going to go out from underneath me . I hope it is not from the Levemir . Please help me if you can,Thanks :)

I was originally put on Lantus by my endocrinologist, then when she was in a terrible car accident and off the circuit for a year, my regular Dr. changed me to Levemir. I found it didn't work for me AT ALL and when i got back with my endo she put me back on Lantus, as she feels it's a better insulin over all. I do much better on the Lantus. I already have bad arthritis in my knees, so i couldn't tell you if that was made worse or not by the Levemir. Good luck with that. Deb :o)

I was on Levemir and it didn't work for me. My endocrinologist started me on Lantus Solarflex and it worked great, in addition to the Humalog, I already have arthritis in my knees so I don't think its from the Levemir. Insulin will make you gain weight. We as diabetics have to exercise and watch what we eat. I can't do floor exercises and a lot of other exercise because of a spinal fusion in 2009 and the arthritis, but walking is a great way to relax, loose weight, enjoy the scenery. Try walking for 15-30 minutes a day. Hope this helps.

also TC, do talk with your doctor regarding your issues, many times we think we may be picky or scared to talk to the doctors, but this is your healthy, your control so ask away even of the doctors, they should be working with you

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
