Lantus vs Levemir

I had been taking Lantus for several months. It worked great to control BS but it burned upon injection. I told the doc about this, and he switched me to Levemir. I started on Monday. My BS numbers are higher so I've upped the dose. But I have gotten red rashed at the injection site. Now I'm thinking I should go back to Lantus.

Any thoughts or help for me?

Are you injecting the Lantus straight from the fridge? I carry around a Lantus pen plus my Humalog pen so they are at room temp when I inject. My other tip is to keep rotating injection sites. Also, maybe change the gauge of needle you use, there are some very fine ones around these days.

No I take it out of the fridge the day before opening it so I inject at room temp. I do rotate sites. I'm using the mini needles, I think they are the smallest ones out there.

Same here, but I started with Levemir and we had to bump up the dose because number weren't right.
Eventually I ended up getting one shot in the night of 30 units and one in the morning of 10 units.
It seemed working for some time. But I got a rush as well.
Finally I switched to Lantus.
I take only one shot in the evening. Once in a while I have this burning feeling upon injection.
Yes I do rotate and I do use it at room temperature.

I had burning with Lantus, too, until my diabetes educator suggested that I inject it very slowly. That did the trick!

Actually I forgot to mention that I always inject insulin very slow... but it does not seem working for me.

I like Levemir way better than Lantus. But you should use what works best for you.

My was diagnosed with DM in June. He is unable to take any oral medications due to end stage liver disease. He takes Novolog 25units before meals with SS of 1 unit per 25 above 150. He takes Lantus 50units at bedtime. He also complains of the Lantus burning at the injection sites (room temperature and we rotate sites). He insists on me giving him the Lantus in the hips because he says it does not hurt as bad. We have had good results with the Lantus/novolog plan. As mentioned we are new to to diabetic life style and many changes are in play. So far so good with this disease-now if we could get as good a handle on the liver disease.
