Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
but many swear by this but I didn't notice a difference in how I felt and yes my numbers shot up since I would do a glass full of the carrot and fruit juices
The Green Smoothie that doesn't taste green
1 cup frozen fruit (ex mangoes, bananas)
1 c almond milk1 scoop protein powder (vanilla)
2 BIG handfuls of baby spinach
I read one site that said to put the spinach in the blender first. Blend this for a few minutes.
I make a frozen smoothie with 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup soy milk, 1 tsp. cocoa, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 scoop protein powder, 3 Tbsp. toasted oatmeal (broil for just a couple of minutes on foil to toast it, 2 Swt N Lows and 5 - 10 almonds . . It is great and filling for hours. I need to make more changes to my diet and lose weight, but I do much better if I have this, because I'm not hungry for a good part of the day.
If anyone tries either, would like to know what you think.
I would love to be able to juice veggies. I love, for instance, V-8 juice. I'm really going to have to get a nutritionist. I keep forgetting to ask my doctor.
Gayle was right on when she said that the fruits and veggies are good for you but as she said, it takes a LOT of carrots to make a full glass. Depending on the juicer you are using, most do not handle tomatoes well. You will be amazed and how little of the standard looking tomato juice that you get. The reason being is that the filters on the juicers do not like the particles from the tomato and the filter screen will plug up very quickly, what goes into the juice chute is more like a tomato water! Commercially, they make tomato juice by pureeing the whole tomatoes.
If you do decide to go towards juicing, the machines can be really expensive. You will find yourself going through loads and loads of fruit and veggies. You should make sure that you put some spinach into all of your juices and about half of a raw potato. Someone explained it to me once but I can't remember the reason why now!
I hope that removed some of the confusion

you need to think in carbs which are sugars (simple and complex) they are the nemisis....
Now foods are rated hi or low glycemic which means the sugars in them either raise the blood sugars quickly or slowly. Food is given a glycemic rating. an apple has 12 carbs and rated low (being it will raise the numbers slowly over a longer period of time before it starts to come down) The carrot has 7 carbs but is rated hi glycemic which means it will spike quickly but will come down sooner. When you juice, it is important of course to mix the high glycemic with the lows in order to basically even things out
