Went to my doctor yesterday and we discussed that I might want to go with an insulin pump. I have a couple of questions:
1. Can I go swimming or take a bath after installation?
2. Will my health insurance cover it (UHC)?
3. What are the + and - about using one.

I really do not know too much about the insulin pump, but I do know 2 kids have it at the school I work at. One of them is on the swim team, so I am sure swimming and bathing are not a problem. She has also come to the clinic without the pod on, saying it fell off and she will use her insulin pen instead.
As far as insurance goes, I have heard of people being approved for it rather easily, then I have heard stories of people fighting with their insurance companies and still get denied. I think it all depends on the insurance company.
As far as disadvantages goes, there is a small chance an infection could occur and this young lady is testing a lot more frequently then she was before. Mom said she will have to do this for several months to determine if the basal and bolus rates are right for her. She is happy that she went to the pump though.
