Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I had a sleep study in 2008. They hook you up to all these wires , electrodes, etc. and then you are expected to sleep without getting tangled. lol You are hooked up to machines and they video tape you while you sleep. They also turn a microphone on so they can hear if you snore. If you take meds to help you sleep, make sure you take them. Sleeping in a strange place and hooked up like I was, made it quite difficult to fall asleep. My second sleep study was the worst. The first one supposedly showed sleep apnea, the second one was to determine how much pressure of air it took for me to stay breathing. = / That was very difficult to get through. They have different masks and nose buds - but the mask they used with me only covered my nose. If I opened my mouth at all on the machine, I woke up gasping for air. The pressure was so high, I could never make it through a night with the mask on. I continually woke up gasping for air which was terrifying. I said screw it, I rather die in my sleep. I am positive that they made a mistake with my sleep study. It was messed up from the beginning, that is why I had to go back twice. I know two people on a sleep apnea machine who never experienced what I did.
Since losing almost 50lbs, I would like to have another sleep study done to see if I still have the apnea. I am still always tired - but I am so use to it that it is normal to me.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Keepup the good work. Inever had the sleep test but have seen it on TV show.Ialways wonder how people sleep in that test like Arline said. I think Lizzy wears a mask at night for her sleep problems but hates it!
