Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

For me eating less oily does the trick. I am not too much into portion control.
For example i can have a whole subway sandwich with with no cheese and it works for me.
Depend son how your body reacts.
I've been type 2 for over 20 years and my family still serves terrible things.. So I have to pick and choose what and how much to eat very carefully and yes I do sometimes give myself a bit more insulin on those occasions (a very bad thing to get in the habit of tho).. I usually take my own beverage so I know there's something I can drink there too.. I know your dinner party has already happened but this is good stuff for in the future too.. Be mindful of what you eat and you will be ok. And if there's really nothing diabetic friendly there then don't be afraid to apologize but not eat..
