Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

I can tell you from pre-diabetes to "full blown"and especially not taking care of ones self that organ, nerve, muscle, skin and other damage occurs. Some of that is not reversible.
If one suspects this stay in close contact with a Doctor. There is no way to ":un-ring a bell".
Back in 2005 my hubby went thru open heart plus we had other stressful things going on and I was going blind..I could not see more than 3 feet in front of me ....would still go to work and drove the 60 mile to eye doctor (this happened in a matter of days)
so she was able to make glasses so I could see and had me call my doctor right then - she had nerve to say "I know your family history, and yours, you do not have diabetes if still concerned call to make an appoint !!!
What part of going blind did she not understand and knowing my family history should have been the trigger so I showed up at the doorstep of the office, she took my blood, called me 2 days later and said my blood sugar was almost 1000.....I said I told something was wrong and by the way you are fired ROFL.
and I still didn't have normal symptoms! we all react differently, have different symptoms and doctors tend to have their own ideas so basically trust your body, and push back at doctors if need be and take control...it is your body
Since the diagnosis, I've eliminated ice cream from my diet completely. I keep my sugars & carbs down. A year later my A1C # was pre-diabetic and it is going down each time I'm tested.
One CAN manage their diabetes if they're careful with what they eat.
Then I went through this ice-cream phase for about a year. I had about 1/2 gallon every other day. At some point during this time, I got a blood test and the A1C # shot up to 7.2! which according to a chart (and my Dr.) was consistent with having diabetes.
This was definitely a wake-up call for me. I just didn't think it would happen to me. I haven't had ice cream since that diagnosis and went on a diet low in carbs/sugars simultaneously. My A1C # is not down to 6.0. It has been consistently doing down too. Don't even miss the ice cream anymore, but it was hard at first.
