When you take the A1C test or HA1c test and you have to fast atleast 8 hour how do you survive when you can't eat. When I don't eat in the morning I feel sick, dizzy and can't focus. I will most likely have to take mines after school which is either 10 or 12. and do you take your medicine befor you go? what if the medicine needs you to eat? and those with thyroid condition do you take your medicine for it?

Your mom should make your appt for early in the morning, so you
don't have to feel sick all day.

I try to schedule my labs in the morning and am usually a little late for work. I am not really sure I could make it so long unless I am not feeling well to begin with. I do take my medications before i go. I have not found a difference in skipping my thyroid pills. Now I am on insulin so not sure how I will work that. Probably just skip it until after.

I am a new diabetic and have only had my 1st A1C, not time for my second, plus I am old...lol and don't have to worry about not being able to get my tests done early in the morning. So I can't help you there.

But, I do take thyroid med right along with my diabetic and other meds. My doctor knows exactly what I take and has never said that I should not take the thyroid med right along with all other. Don;t know what kind of thyroid med you take, but mine is levothyroxine for under active thyroid.

you can take your meds but you should get the lab work scheduled for first thing in the morning. my hospital lab opens at 7am so check with yours to find out, they might also have weekend hours

I do not take a thyroid pill, but I am on Insulin, so I make sure I eat a Protein snack the night before around 10pm.

Janice you don't know old...LOL Plan fasting tests early in the am and plan other tests late in the day.

I wasn't told to fast for my last A1c. After rall it's a reading for over the past 3 months, not like a fast b/s. If I do need to fast I schedule an early am appt. Take a beakfast bar to the appt and eat asap afte the test.

This is true Ali, but when they run my tests they do a bunch of other tests and that is what the fasting is for not your A1C.

Thanks.. I usually did it in the morning.. but I was trying not to miss school because graduation is coming up shortly by time I get in school will be over for me.. I will do them in the mornings
