ok little confused my ac1 is 6.6 which I think is bad! NEW TO ALL THIS I have been reading lots of post! but so confused and anxiety level is threw the roof! :(

Non diabetic people have an A1c between 4 and 6. 6.6 is not terrible. I'm at 7.6, diagnosed last year at 13 something. There is tons of conflicting information out there. Keep up with the blogs, there are several good sites out there including this one. Learn as much as you can, lots of books around too. Internet research will bring lots of answers and sites like this one will provide support and a good place to let off steam. PS. Anxitiy is bad for your blood sugar, take a deep breath and try to relax.

Hi Linda50.. I'm new to all of this too .. been reading posts for awhile trying to figure it all out. Now I am seeing all this about the a1c and I'm more confused than I started. I'm really questioning if I was mis-diagnosed. When he diagnosed me with diabetes my a1c was 5 after a few months of him experimenting with different medications its 6. I have no idea what that means but it sure sounds like he is making me worse! lol It's scary when you dont know what anything is or means. My Dr. didn't explain anything to me just handed me a monitor and medications and told me to come back. I have no idea how to eat or not eat or anything. I've learned more on here the past 2 days than I have the whole time I've been with him! I feel your frustration.. ugh!

The American Diabetes Association says anything under 7.0 is O.K.

That is not bad, as Lismith says you will hear so much conflicting info, even doctors have thier own ideas...so take a deep breath and just continue doing what you are doing and in time that number could come down.

Um, 6.6 is pretty good.

Now Cynnerr, You may want to talk with a different doctor and such...because an A1c of 5 should not have DXed you as diabetic unless you failed a glucose tolerance test....

An a1c of 6.6 is good. You want to keep it below 7. However, from what my doctor has told me and what I have read, an a1c above 6.5 is considered diabetic. Just keep watching your carbs and exercising when you can.

Cynnerr............get with your doctor again....no way should he say you were diabetic with those A1C readings, not sure where he is coming from He should not even have put you on meds for that ! I'd check with another doctor now
