pretty much use what ever is on sale lol. I use Softsoap for my hands with aloe vera in it.

And I should not tell my other secret but I have been known to use face lotion on my hands...The Oil of Olay, or the walmart generic version (I do have a more expensive one but don't use that since I don't want to use it up)

I had run out of "hand and body" lotion once and had the Oil of Olay and thought what the heck. Worked good

I use Urea Care with 10% Urea..works great. As Gayle said, I also use Softsoap.

I have also been using softsoap in my kitchen to wash my hands but a different soap in my bathroom and I think that is the problem. Plus using the alcohol to clean my fingers doesn't help. I am stopping the alcohol and will pick up some more lotion. I like the off brand oil of olay also.

the alcohol will dry out the skin...I have never used the alcohol and never had an issue. I don't even test on the tips of my fingers, but use the top part from the nail to the first knuckle, off to the sides. No sore fingers, no black spots from dried blood...of course I had to adjust the depth of the lancet to the smallest depth

I have barely used alcohol to clean my fingers in the past few days. I never used it prior to my hospitalization but started afterwards due to fear of germs, but now I just wash my hands, so I am sure it is the multiple hand washing. I also am testing in the first knuckle area of my finger and not having any problem with that. I am going to get me some lotion or hand cream today. I used some Avon hand buffing cream and cleansing gel that softened my hands a little.

Gold Bond makes an awesome hand sanitizer that has lotion in it. It is awesome. Smells great too. You might give it a try, get a sample or something.

There is a hand and body lotions for diabetics at Costcos. I have it but forget the name...I had dry hands and feet. Just one use and my hands and feet are soft.

I had forgot about Gold Bond products. I haven't brought products made especially for diabetics because they tend to be expensive. I am going to go online and see if I can get samples.

I'd suggest a small amount of mayonnaise. Its an old trick that few people no about. This provides multiple uses. The chemicals and ingrediants will keep your hands moist, soft and smooth, while it gives you an alternative to eating it and hurting your blood sugar level :) It's crazy what some foods can do for you, like the good ole peanutbutter to remove gum from your hair; if you have the hiccups then take 10 straight sips of any beverage without stopping for breaths inbetween. It will drown out the hiccups and abbra-cadabbra the hiccups are gone. It can be anything to drink, from water, to juice, to soda, to alcohol. Try it and let me know that I was right, IT REALLY WORKS!!

I use to use mayo in my hair as a conditioner. I love the old time remedies. I don't like it to eat it on or in my food, but I am going to try it on my hands. Right now I am willing to try just about anything. My hands are so dry that they hurt.

I find this an interesting post. I hadn't though about using lotion on my hands. Although honestly I haven't been washing my hands after I test, I should probably start. I have been noticing the tips of the fingers I use to test most of the time are getting extremely rough :( Also they are kind of a dotted brownish look where I have been poking myself. After noticing this I started using different fingers more frequently.
As far as a good hand lotion though; the bath and body butter stuff is very moisturizing. Also you might try the brand called working hands. My hubby has started using it and it makes his hands (he works outside all day) feel really soft.
