Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
My triglycerides are unknown, the VA tends to "ration" care...
And, of course, we are all different.....
We need fat, and this amount should be determined by the amount of work/exercise...Our lives are so easy today...we need little fat...IMO.
Your doctor should tell you what you need to do to get it down.
Have you considered Niacin? I understand it is often used along with statin drugs.
I began taking niacin when my HDL was down around 34 I was able to get it up to 55 over a years time at 1000mgs per day. (I worked up to that amount over time do to the transient flushing effect it has when one first starts. This effect goes away after a few weeks when one reaches their optimal dose.) It can help lower triglycerides. I also drink 6-7 oz of dry red wine (Merlot) in the evening, that also helps sometimes to raise HDL I don't know what effect it would have on your triglycerides. Or your blood sugar. Doesn't seem to effect mine. (BS) My triglycerides were 48.
