Nobody will argue with this: go for high fiber, low fat. The grains you eat should be as whole as possible.
From this point on it gets controversial, and your mileage may vary so all you can do is experiment to see what works for your system. I am working my way towards being 100% on the plan laid out in "Dr. Neal Barnard's Program For Reversing Dibates." Lots of fruits and veggies, preferably raw, modest amounts of whole grains and zero animal products of any kind. I am using meat as a condiment only and 100% vegan most days already. Works GREAT. I would die in misery on the Atkins diet that a lot of people here follow.
I am going to go to a class shortly and hopefully will get some more advice or learn what is right and wrong.
