Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
thanks so much! Linda
"The First Year: Type II Diabetes, An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed," by Gretchen Becker. It will answer all of your questions and more.
The short answer to your question is that because of the disease your blood glucose levels are too high. So the problem is not exactly sugar, but how we as diabetics fail to process sugars.
To make up for our limited ability to process carbohydrates (sugars), we eat differently, we exercise as much as we possibly can, and we take medications. If we do that, our blood sugars drop into the normal range after a few weeks (if lucky) or months (more likely).
That is not the cure. The disease does not go away and there is no cure. But the complications we fear are not caused by diabetes, they are caused when we fail to control the diabetes. Bad management, I would say, causes the business to fail. Sad sad painful consequences, indeed.
Learn all you can. And rest assured you will be able to take control.
Many people can eat all the wrong foods, be over weight, don't exercise and they never get diabetes or much less are borderline
Thanks sooooo much Linda
