Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

You can also search out diabetic recipes for free online. They are great and tastey. I use one at every family gathering, and noone can tell it's diabetic food. :)
I don't know what I can eat really. Except mass quantities of vegetables and due to the fact that I have blood coagulation problems, there are very few vegetables I can eat because some vegies affect coagulation.
When I walk to exercise my feet hurt like heck.
You know what? I think I'll just enjoy the last few years and eat what I want. Who cares anyway?
Dan the trouble with that thinking is that the bad part about diabetes is some really scarey complications. You could have a stroke and end up living like a vegetable. I know this of course but it still makes eating difficult because we all just want our lives to go back to what we thought normal was. So I guess I have to feed myself the vegetables or someone else might be doing it for me and I know I wouldn't like that! I am too much of a control freak to turn over that kind of power to someone else. hehe :)
Not seriously, but I have found that I can take Glyburide just before a meal of carbs and my blood sugar doesn't go up much at all.
I've read that Glyburide, however, stresses out the pancreas and wears it out quickly. I don't want to be on insulin, but then I can eat anything I want and just up my dosage of insulin.
I've lived a full life anyway, so as long as nobody has to change my diapers, I may take the easy way out.... LOL
It sure would be nice if someone could figure out what causes diabetes and come up with a cure. In the meantime I guess I will try to lose weight in hopes that I don't have to continue taking these drugs forever. You know none of the drugs are really good for us either. There are side effects and complications with all of them. Our liver for one is being comprimised.
So I just have to find a way to enjoy vegetables.
Thanks for the book suggestion - I will try to get that and see if it helps and/or has some good recipes. I really want to try the weight loss thing and see if that will allow me to go off medication. Speaking of medication, what is glypburide? I have never heard of it till today. Is it like glypiside?
