I have been overwhelmed lately (last 4 month) with panic attacks. I have several every day. The doctor put me on Lexapro but all I did was sleep and I can't do that so I went off it after 7 days of 1/2 dosage. Any suggestions? It's making me nuttier than I already was.
By the way my BG has been running 120-140 in the AM ( fasting) I can't seem to get that down below 100. Normally after I eat it stays there and even drops into the 90's before I eat again. Is this normal?
Don't tell me to ask my doctor because he doesn't have time to answer questions most of the time. ( and there's only 2 doctors in this town.

The only way to handle panic attacks is to not give in to the temptation to flee the situation. You have to bear in mind that anxiety is only a feeling, it cannot hurt you, and none of those things you're afraid will happen (I'll die, I'll go crazy, I'll faint, etc.) are really going to happen. You start to panic and you stop everything else and say, "OK, I'm having a panic attack. I've had 'em before and they've never killed me yet. No big deal. This only lasts a few minutes." Then let the anxiety happen WITHOUT FIGHTING IT AND WITHOUT TRYING TO RUN FROM IT. After you have done this once it is way easier to do it the next time and the next time and the next time. And pretty soon you don't need to anymore.

If your doctor is "too busy" to answer your questions then find a new doctor. Seriously, part of your doctor's job is to answer your questions. Does he get paid or is it like a free clinic thing? It shouldn't matter, but tell him if he doesn't have time to answer your questions you're only paying half his bill because he's only doing half his job. Then turn him into the state division and file a formal written complaint. I'm sure he'll be happy to answer your questions. I think you feel like he's too busy, but trust me, most doctors welcome the questions. Write them down when you have an appointment, makes things faster and you don't forget what you want to ask. Also ask his nurse, sometimes nurses know as much if not more then your doctors. Invistigate online for different meds that might work, ask if they might be more appropriate for you.. But if your doctor actually says to you he's just too busy to answer your questions, then you need to drop him like a hot potato.

I also suffer from panic attacks. I will tell you that often, this is caused by an inbalance in your brain chemistry. Medication can help you on either a temporary or permanent basis. If the Dr you are seeing won't help you, please see a psyc dr. They have special training in this area and you will greatly benefit from.
One other thing. These panic attacks may be brought on from other curmcumstances in your life and seeing a therapist may help you understand what is going on and help you learn to "fix" the problem.
Finding out that you have a life long disease creates a very stressful time for all of us.
