Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
When I was hospitalized I went two days getting pumped FULL of fluids before I finally had the guts to ask for diapers. I'm lucky they didn't decide to cath me just for asking. I can only imagine!
Just curious...the withdrawal symptoms were from the Prozac? What was that like? (I've been taking it since the day they invented it!).
Anyway they attached this drip of saline ans just flushed my system which would have partially taken a weeks worth of prozac out.
I got terrible shakes and tremours, had to go to emergency doctor for 5 vallium but they did nothing to help.
Im back on prozac Im glad to say though its going to take time to get back as I was.
The worse part was I was sort of changing personalty...arguing with those around, telling some a few home truths which is out of character to be that blunt.
Just had to explain to those I hurt it was the effect of coming off prozac.
As for the catherter ordeal, which I felt was badly done,as I was actually losing blood as the tube was causing trauma, and the pain was excuriating when I felt the need to pass more water,as I was pumped full of water.
I feel that is a good idea to write it down,as I don't see what complaining will do,as I still feel in shock and am totally a mess all because of the rough handling.
Im covered in bruises where they stuck needles in me while I was asleep too.
I had a week of hell, and felt I was being tortured and punished.
Im now taking this revolting drink called calcium resonium which tastes like brick dust with a hint of vanilla which makes me want to throw up.
Its supposed to get rid of the excess potassium.
The high potassium is equally as dangerous as low potassium,as I totally confused and all my joints have partially seized up.
The worse part is the odema,Im in agony with the skin splitting my doctor gave me a cortisone cream which I feel isn't doing much.
I cannot get into the bath so having to do a bad version of the dreaded bed bath ubtil social services deem I will get help.
Im hoping the swelling will go down and my problems will be over, meanwhile moving around is agony,on top of that I had a fall on saturday night fell flat on my face, hurting my only good leg as the other one is a club foot.
If I did't know better I'd swear someone has it in for me.....
I'm impressed you can even type with the swelling and splitting. You did a great job recounting the story, I do hope it makes you feel a bit better. Now that know what metabolic acidosis can do I'm going to pay more attention to potassium! I hope you don't have to drink that liquid stuff more than once.
The few times I went off prozac, I was *not* a pleasant person. And that was *without* any extra aggravations like you suffered. I didn't notice any withdrawal, but my husband could tell I had stopped.
It is amazing how much fluid they can get into you when they put their minds to it. I remember feeling SOOO much better after a couple of days back at home.
I hope your bruises heal quickly- and the rest of you too!

Only it does help to write it down, and Im one of thos skeptical people that not totally sure whether these sites work, wellfor me it has been the start of my healing process.
Im now on anti biotics as my my leg has developed cellulitis where it split and got infected, the cortisone cream burnt my skin.
Im putting cold compresses on my leg and stomach as this was advice I found helps.
the anti biotics should kick in soon I hope,as my leg feels so tight.
My ordeal is the wake-up call I needed, and never will I be so careless about my diabetes.
I NEVER want to go through the torture again.
Im going to try and lose my excess weight,do more walking and generally get myself fitter.
But I lack motivation for the walking as I suffer from agoraphobia.
So my first hurdle is to the garden gate and back.
But like to thank everyone who gave me comfort and support,it meant a great deal to me.
