Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I was put on 5ug for a few months, was thrilled with the wieght loss, then put on to 10ug in December.
Not sure if its just a rumour but I heard that byette may come out in pill form, but can't see how that would work to be honest.
Ive had a few problems with chemists and doctors who prescribe the byetta pen which has been the biggest pain.
Was so surprised to learn that many medical staff know nothing about this pen.
Its not cheap either, costs 100 in uk,so when an inexperienced doctor put down 14 of them the pharmacy almost had a fit....!!!
I realise Gps are rushed off their fett, but you would have thought they would read up on the medication they dish out.
At least with the byetta pen Im not chained to the toilet, while I know metformin works for some, and am not knocking it.
It just didn't agree with me.
One of the nurses when I go used to take the B pen. She loved the weight loss even though she cheated horribly.
Well hopefull you and Peches will get together with your stories...Good luck to you
It may well be I need to take it at the same time each day.
Maybe Im overdoing the dieting abit,as Im trying so hard to keep going with it.
Having lost alot of weight quickly, maybe I need to slow things down.
As I notice with any diet you first go on,you lose alot of water, and have a feeling I need to keep my water levels up,which I find alot harder in winter.
I used to take 2x500 slow release metformin 3 times a day after meals.
It might be that they were slow release,so built up.
But it sure frightened the hell out of me.
Ive been in trauma ever since.
As I said before medical staff tend to be over strecthed, that mistakes happen, but its made me more aware now.
I feel the byetta pen has been the best thing since sliced bread for losing weight,as waiting before food has retrained me not to pick,it was so hard at first, especially if you are cooking and need to test food for taste for others,I just tend to guess and cross my fingers it turns ok.
Thanks by the way for all your comments,it does help to sort things out better, then just stewing on these things.
Just for peace of mind its got to be worth the hassle.
thanks by the way
I am diabetic and get dizzy when I dont eat on time.
As Byetta side effects wear off after the first few weeks, and have found it has been the best treatment to help me shed the weight [5 stones+ ] now which has had a dramatic result on my blood,my average has lowered too.
Im also pleased because I already have nerve damage in my foot, and Im anxious to stop it spreading.
What I know I must do is to take it at the same time of day which normally is 8.00am 30-40 mins before eating, then again in the evening usually 6.00pm 30-40-mins before food.
I realise as a diabetic I cannot be stupid with overdoing the diet, and make sure to eat at reg intervals, which I now do.
But still aware of cutting fat and sugars, but concentrating on healthy options that I still can enjoy, after all life is hard without the odd treat,as long as its kept in control.
Overall Byetta has been the best thing for me,and if like someone mentioned a super byetta comes out, then if it works better then Im all for it.
Im due to see my diabetic consultant in May,so am eager to lose as much as possible by then, now just to wiped the smug look on his face off,but to feel I have acheived at least something good in my life.
Plus being lighter has helped alot with my mobility, but still have sore feet, but don't want delay them getting worse which I fear they may well do.
Have heard ginger is good for circulation,so drink ginger and lemon tea sometimes, probably need to drink more of it to get more benefits.
