Glad you change, comfort is a necessity when injecting. However, I use an 8mm, I don't have a problem with it.

I use a 4mm and won't use anything else. My doctor started me with 8mm and that was just too long for me.

I usr a 4 mm long.I think thats the nano. but It still burns sometimes and it can be a little painful for me, but then I hate needles.

For me, it is the gauge and not the length. When I first started, I was given 28 gauge needles. I learned from experience that I much prefer 31 gauge.

I agree I use a 31 Gauge.

Thanks, y'all, for your inputs. My last injection (12noon today) stung a bit. I guess needle size sometimes doesn't matter. Sometimes it stings, and sometimes it's painless.

Are you changing the needle often? Some people recommend changing at every injection, I don't always stick to that.

And also, are you rotating different injection sites? As well as the abdomen, you can and should use your thighs and upper arms and possibly your buttocks (although I have never worked out how to do that one!).

I use a 5mm although I find that I have a harder time getting them onto my levemir or Lantus pents the 30g tips fit better than the 32.

I've bought less expensive needles on line. I get the BD 31g 5mm at the drug store with insurance. I bought Easy Touch, same size, on line and they are not too bad, but I don't think they are coated as well as the BD.
I've also bought 32g 4mm needles on line. I use them for the Novolog as the dose is lower - 10 or 12Units.
I still use the BD for the Levemir as that dose is 25 to 30Units and takes a lot longer to inject. I some how feel the larger diameter, though not by much, will allow the insulin to flow in quicker so I can get the needle OUT!

I think it's the solution that carries the insulin that causes the STING. Mostly the Novo is fine, sometimes the Levemir stings, but when I had a Lantus pen, it seemed to sting all the time different solution.

I've read that the Lantus stings the most, no matter needle size. Also, if I don't jab straight in, but slightly angle, it will sting. My Ins wouldn't cover Lantus...so I had to get Levemir. Finally, it is working to keep my steroid-induced high b sugars. Two hours after my 12noon shot & lunch, my blood sugar was 124 (!)

The Novolog need a bit of help, however. I had to add a 500mg dose of Metformin and 2mg of Glimepiride after eating lunch.

I also use a new needle each time, you can't close the pen with a needle on it and Insulin is light sensitive the cap need to be put back on it.
