I have two meters. The one from my HMO is Breeze 2, with the test strip wheels. The one my husband had from the VA is Freestyle Freedom with strips that come in a bottle. I'm trying to exist on minimal Social Security and am having a hard time affording the cost of the wheels. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I do need to keep checking my BS as it has been bouncing around since I lost my husband.

I bought a second one, Reli-On Prime..THe meter was $17.00 and the strips (for 50) were $9.00. I have the Accu-Check from my insurance and those strips are pretty expense even with my HMO. Not sure of the accuracy of Reli-On, I just purchased it last week and have been using it along with my Accu when I needed to check in between. Good luck with it all.

Thanks for your reply. My Breeze Two wheels are $20 for 100 strips, so the Reli-On Prime isn't too much of a savings, but $2 is at least something.

How about checking with the manufacturer to see if they offer any type of patient assistant programs? Good luck to you janni :)

do you have any insurance? Medicare will pay for test strips, if you have the supplimental insurance for prescription drugs and your doctor writes a script for one hundred each month.

Yeah, I'm on an HMO and that is what the problem is with getting any help from those publicized offers. I did contact them. I guess they help if you are on straight Medicare, but not when you are on an HMO. If I recall correctly I did contact the mfg., but I will do it again just to be sure. I'll let you know.

i'm so sorry for your loss.
walmart used to have it's own blood sugar kit. the strips were 25.00 for 100.
