Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Begin by getting back to the doctor and get a good physical and your bg checked, etc
Throw out all junk food and get rid of the regular sodas in the house Drinking sodas or eating sugar does not make you a diabetic or give you diabetes....does it make your risk to get it more so, YES. I have known many people with the most horrible eating habits , overweight, etc you can think of and their cholesterol, blood glucose were absolutely perfect.
change your diet, no white breads, pastas, potatoes or rice...the starches in these foods keep your numbers up longer and higher. Get whole grains bread, look for the "light versions" try sweet potatoes, use dreamfields pasta, that is better fitted for diabetics. Read the food labels and notice the CARBS, this is what you need to control...try to keep the total meal at about 30-45 (get to a dietician also to help decide) snacks about 20 carbs, watch portion controls. Stay away from fried foods, the fats are not good also since yes the fats from the fried keep numbers up longer and higher...veggies but do watch corn and carrots, they have a natural high fructose and some can't handle them except in very small amounts. Keep a food diary to help you see what you are eating, get a carb book or checkout sparkpeople, calory king, or lose it online to get the carbs, calories
