are you only taking 500 once a day? what did the doctor say how to take?

I take 1000mg at dinner time, along with my meal, depending on how many carbs for lunch, I'll take one at lunch per my doctor ok to do.

Don't take on an empty stomach and see if you can have the ER version since this is "extended release" and easier on the stomach.

the side effect is usually temporary, but with some they are more sensitive to it and can't take...please talk with your doctor

Yes only 500mg a day in the morning with breakfast and its the HCL ER that's what it says on the bottle.I was one it about a year ago for 6 months I got miserable I was 1000mg at dinner time I was sick at all the time.

I felt like this for a few weeks, and then it got better, I don't know how long you've been taking it ... I was dizzy all the time and I kind of just got used to it and like after 6 months I got rid of the side effects.

I take metformin with breakfast and dinner. I've been taking it for about six months and have no side effects as long as there's food in my belly!

I take it in the middle of my meal..

I had way too many side effects and finally had to be placed in Insulin..the most difficult for me with Metformin was SEVERE nausea to the point where I was not eating and pain in my tummy....

Do a search, Metformin Side Effects. I got a lot of info on www.drugs.com - I've also searched Metformin & Diarrhea, and found sites stating it's more than 53% along with the word "Explosive" when reading comments from other users.

I had been taking 1/2 an amodium tablet with each Metformin. It does help a bit, but can bind you up. My MD has not comment.

I've now started the over night insulin but it doesn't seem to be controlling the BS as well.. I still have taken Met once every few weeks, and then am sick for a week after.
Some of us just never tolerate it.

BTW - If you've just started taking it, the side effects may go away after a few weeks.
I got a bad A1c last May and decided to take the Met twice a day as prescribed. I thought I had an intestinal bug that just wasn't going away.
Still not sure as the "effects" of Metformin still seem to be lingering, but what I can tell you is - - - it becomes more and more PAINFUL to go to the bathroom, and there were days I could not leave the house.
This is why I have STOPPED taking it and am looking for something better. (sorry if there are any typos here)

That's how I feel like I have to stay home or somewhere I am comfortable,the past two days I have been doing better with the side effects. I still get the moment of nausea but its like 3 hours after I eat so I would eat a snack and feel better. This morning my blood sugar was low 56 but metformin doesn't make your blood sugar low

keep an eye on your bs if you are having lows first thing in morning, not good. My doctor noticed I was having lows and asked if any were morning fasting - said not a good thing, told him no, mine are usually when I am out side, etc

funny sorry since Ive been trying not to used the same hand all the time I tried to use my left hand and left the meter upside down. it was actually 95.

Story*

I take one teaspoon at night...and I take 8mg of Glimepride in the afternoon. My evening blood sugars are marvelous. Tonight it was 108. Love that stuff!

Glimepiride is another oral drug, might be known also as amaryl
