Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I know when my diabetes went out of control, I experienced muscles aches and pains and had trouble getting out of bed some mornings. Come to find out sugar was being stored in my joints and once I was back in control for a couple months, I no longer had this issue
Here are some of the possible side effects of Januvia:
"JANUVIA (jah-NEW-vee-ah) is a once-daily prescription pill that, along with diet and exercise, helps lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
JANUVIA should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or with diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in the blood or urine). If you have had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), it is not known if you have a higher chance of getting it while taking JANUVIA.
Selected Risk Information About JANUVIA
Serious side effects can happen in people who take JANUVIA, including pancreatitis, which may be severe and lead to death. Before you start taking JANUVIA, tell your doctor if you've ever had pancreatitis. Stop taking JANUVIA and call your doctor right away if you have pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that is severe and will not go... The pain may be felt going from your abdomen through to your back"
also - "Swelling of the hands or legs, when JANUVIA is used with the combination of metformin and rosiglitazone. These are other types of diabetes medicines... Januvia may interact with digoxin, probenecid, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin or other salicylates, sulfa drugs, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or beta-blockers...
Metformin may cause - This medication may cause lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the body, which can be fatal). Lactic acidosis can start slowly and get worse over time. Get emergency medical help if you have even mild symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as:

Call your doctor at once if you have any other serious side effect such as:
feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion; swelling or rapid weight gain; orfever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms.
Less serious side effects of metformin may include:
headache or muscle pain; weakness; or mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gas, stomach pain.
Vitamin B-12 may get deficient and require supplements.

I think the symptoms you are having may also be indirectly from something like kidney problem from Januvia, or symptoms of liver problem, or acidosis.
