Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
This advice was not intended for someone who apparently knows everything. BTH, wouldn't you rather spend a couple of bucks on a few books or continue to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on bad health medication and hospitals? I implore you.
Anyway, for your knowledge, I have dedicated myself one hundred percent of my time since last June, being that I am unemployed, so dont tell others it is not possible. You do and suggest what you want to but dont ever undercut what I believe in and suggest to others who come here and ask for our advice.
The best thing you can do is quit drinking if you can, if messes up the liver and pancreas both of which make and regulate insulin levels.
if your liver enzymes are all over the place due to drinking usually all kind of other reading will be effected.
I quit smoking and the booze about 6 years ago after many many failed attempts.
I for one would not be here had I not succeded, so never give up you are recovering your health every day of not drinking and smoking Its just the best thing you can do!
Whatever gave you the impression that I do?
Then as far as what to eat or not eat, did I mention to eat your meds? LOL (couldn't resist.)
The medicine is the key to success. At least that is my opinion after being diagnosed 5 years ago.
Yup, you're gonna need to change how you eat, but let it sink in gradually. Don't try to "build Rome in a day" so to speak...
Best advice about eating is... consult a medical professional. Either a nutritionist or a dietitian. I paid initially several hundred dollars for these visits, but I learned a lifetime's worth of info about nutrition.
Another sure fire thing... I would suggest steering clear of any and all "fad" diets. (Atkins, et al ad infinitum). What you need to do is re-learn how to eat.
It takes 4 years to get a Bachelor's degree in college, right?
Then another (at least) 2 steady full-time years to get your Master's degree.
Then the Ph.D. might take you another (between) 4 and 10 years (or more).
Learning is a stage-by-stage process, one battle at a time, as in AA... "one step at a time."
And as in AA, since you are familiar, apply the same higher power to this stuff. Pray to god as you understand Him/her/etc....
And most of all, just live....
I wish you the best, and you are NOT alone.
