My tip: speak to your doctors, specialists, nurses, GP, anyone to tell them how you feel. I hope you feel better soon.

DKA is not always reversible. Sometimes people die. My daughter while away at college slowly reduced her insulin though her reasons were totally different from yours. She is convinced that going into DKA reduced her IQ. I personally think DKA because of an insulin reduction is harder to handle than if you were lost in the woods and had no insulin until you went into DKA. You may not be able to walk the fine line between just acidosis and DKA.

You don't want to go there.

Also, have you had your thyroid checked? If you are type 1 (sorry I don't know) would increases your likelihood to have more immune system problems. Any thyroid problem can cause the type problems you are having. Autoimmune thyroid problems cause more problems than others do. And you need a doctor that knows how to treat thyroid problem. Many doctors don't.

I hate to say it, because i'm usually the negative one, but you need to look at the POSITIVES.

DKA is a TERRIBLE way to go. Been in DKA 50-60 times since I turned 8, and EVERY time, I wanted to die. I've been diabetic for 26+ years, and the only way to do it is to keep on doin it.

I was in a really bad point at that time, but I've started taking insulin, exercising, etc. I don't want to die for thinness. It's completely stupid.
My eye also started throbbing and going blurry, so I stopped.
I won't be going down that road anytime soon.

@betty: And I'm sorry to hear about your daughter Betty, I hope she can recover fully.

BleuCeleste, PLEASE don't go down this route. Diabulimia has caused me neuropathy, gastroparesis, retinopathy, and a completely shattered ankle from bone density loss. The consequences are endless, and like with any eating disorder the "benefits" are temporary. The weight always comes back as soon as you start taking your insulin So to stay thin you're basically suffering more and more medical consequences until you die. OR you can stop the cycle before it starts. Please trust me when I say I'm coming from a place of experience when I say these things.

I'm glad you are having a thyroid test done. Let me know when you get the results. A messed up thyroid can really mess you up. It can cause depression and messed up thinking as well as your body doing stupid things with your weight.

Thanks for your thoughts on my daughter. Her DKA was in 1980 so is in the distant past. She hasn't had one since. She and I both have thyroid problems so well know what that can do.
