Just in case there is anyone here thinking they've had a bad day recently... oh gosh golly let me tell YOU! LoL
Yesterday I discovered the shittiest way to start a day. It's official.
It involves an eyeful of glass, first thing in the morning, out of nowhere.
Try and top that!
So.. I was leaving for school yesterday morning. Now, every day I do this - I brew my own coffee.. put it in a travel mug.. and as I go to lock my door on my way out, I put said travel mug on the cement ledge outside beside the door. Now, I have been living in this apartment for about 3 weeks now, and I had never noticed, until now, that there were wee little bits of glass on this ledge. I have no idea where this glass came from, but I do know it must have been there before I moved in, as I know that I have not broken any glass. Well.. I put my travel mug down, and I must have put it down harder than usual because this time, quite unlike ever before, when I put my mug down it caused wee little shards of glass to go flying straight into my eyes.
I was mortified.
I had no idea what to do. See, I have never had glass in my eyes before. I started freaking out, trying not to blink.. fearing the possibility of cutting my eye in such a way that I harm my eyesight. So I looked for my tweezers to try to get the little bits I could see out. Could not find them (of course!) So, I called my resident manager who lives above me and asked to borrow some from her. Well, she came down to my apartment, handed me the tweezers, and then as I was lifting them to my eye she couldn't bear the idea of me actually trying to remove the glass myself.. so she decided we were better off calling the paramedics. I'm sure she was right, in hind-sight. I wasn't thinking clearly... there was frikkin glass in my eyes!
So.. she called them.
They show up, and when they do they can't bloody see any glass in my eye. I tell them I could see it two seconds ago and I know its there. Well, they're convinced that I have cried it out by this point, so they don't even bother to do a thorough inspection, instead opting to try to flush whatever else may be left in there with some saline. I assume when they are done that I am glass-free.
Oh, how wrong I was!
I hurry off to class, now rather late.. and half way through my class I scratch the corner of my eye. Lo-and-behold, I remove my finger from my eye to see a shard of glass on it. I assume that is the rest of it.
No, no... 5 minutes later, another piece comes out. Again, I assume that's GOT to be it! I flush my eyes out a few more times after class, and go to the pharmacy to buy from polysporin eyedrops, as the paramedics told me to do in order to avoid an infection.
Well... I wake up this morning to find a ridiculously tiny piece of glass that has worked its way out of my OTHER eye - the one I wasn't sure had glass in it in the first place. By this point I've decided I definitely need to have a thorough inspection done.
Right after class this morning I went to the doctor at school and she, finally, did a thorough inspection. There were no visible pieces left in my eye, but she removed some microscopic ones that were left. She tells me that my cornea as well as the insides of my eyelids are pretty badly scratched up, but thankfully there are no deep cuts. I should be healed up within a matter of weeks. But I do have to continue using these eyedrops that I bought to make sure I don't get infected. I hate using them because they make my eyes sting like crazy. The wind also makes them sting. As does keeping my eyes closed (needless to say I had a rough sleep last night...)
So there you have it.
Officially the shittiest way to start a day.
Hope that put a few smiles on some faces! How could it not? It's pretty much the most ridiculous story ever.. and makes any bad day look like sunshine! LoL
What makes it so darned funny is that I have tonnes of glass stuff in my apartment - a glasstop table, a glasstop nightstand, glass plates, glass bowls, glass drinking glasses, a glass blender.. etc etc etc.... and how do I manage to get GLASS in my EYE? By putting a METAL travel mug down on a CEMENT ledge.... doing nothing that involved any glass, using nothing that was glass, and (as far as I knew at the time) being no where near glass....
The End.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

I fell in the kitchen, 3 weeks ago while carrying an 8 ft. piece of countertop. I stumbled and fell, landing on the counter top and breaking it. My shoulder hurt for a while and I took some Ibuprofen. My arm started hurting worse as time went by and I helped my brother move a freezer down to the basement of my church last Wed. I then went to a Chiropractor and he worked on me a while. My arm kept hurting so yesterday I went to see my Dr. He scheduled a CT scan and last night he called me the results. I have a broken shoulder.!!!!!!!!! I have to see an Orthopedic Surgeon Monday. That sucks too!!!!!
you still can since there is records of incident and non treatment.
My eyes mean more than the world to me.
am glad that you were able to flush your eyes.
Oh ya I would also take a photo of the ledge showing the glass and area that glass pcs fell on. I would do so befor maintance is order to clean the area to protect thier butts.
Its nothing personal against the property owner. such incidents is why she/he pays for liability insurance.
Sorry that you went thur this.
at least you started on the mending process.
Funny is when I fall going up steps w/o spilling my coffee or when my dogs decides to get in ft of me and walk in ft of me and w/o warning plots down on ground and I trip over him. Its like my dog does this on purpose and laughts at me.
Your incident is a hell of way to start a day. Prays for you for speed recovery.
Old Biker you are mighter and stronger than super man. ouch ouch - hopeful you got prescript for some good drugs, lol, ?
Get work release statement from your Dr and/or hospital.
This was a totally fluke accident. Shit happens. I didn't go blind, and I walked away with some minor scratches that will heal up in a couple of weeks.. Why would I bother suing anyone?
Yeah, I was disappointed in the EMS service, but whatever. They were nice enough to not bill me, so I'm good with that.
Didn't go to a hospital. I'm sure if I did, I would have gotten a thorough inspection.
This thread was a bad idea. Apparently no one here has a sense of humour. The POINT was that I am surrounded by glass all the time, and when I am completely not involved with anything glass I end up with glass in my eye... how is that not funny?
I did NOT start this post to get sympathy..
I did NOT start this post to get people ranting about who I should sue over a FLUKE ACCIDENT...
Wow.
Don't hate.
