Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Sorry Guys...I kinda went off on a tangent there...I'm just having a bad day...this depression, bipolar, suicidal, whatever it is thing-a-ma-jig is really exhausting...it's like the last 2 days I've been up floating in the clouds...higher than kite...and now today...BOOM!...I just fucking CRASHED!...and now I am exhausted, tired, depressed, and ready to be done with LIFE!...
But it's just that telling someone inside it those things can't help them to get there. It's like a quest, where you go through the whole deal only to find that you just have to click your heels together and say 'there's no place like home'. You have to go through the adventure and the danger for that to actually have meaning. And you have to go through that adventure to understand what is important.
Depression to me is a black pit you fall into without realising. Like a bear pit. With spikes. It's awful in there. And you can be there for months - years. You can slowly slide into there, or you can fall dramatically. You can climb out all in one go... or you can slowly carefully haul yourself out. However you get in and out is different for everyone.
I had it severely, and I had a period that lasted a long time of severe suicidal despair. utter despair. And various things cracked the vision I was having, snapped off bits of my world view. My daughter getting hurt. Bang. That ripped a piece off my depression. My son needing me.... while I was wallowing in despair others were being harmed. The people I loved were being endangered. That 'snapped me out' of a LOT of it. Although you can't 'snap' out of all of it I don't think. But that certainly did rip huge hunks of it off.
We have to empower ourselves to get out of that depression/despair, and we fall in there by losing power or discovering we have no power or being powerless for a long, long time. Unhappiness gone rancid without being cured, that's depression.
Having said that, I had severe depression, and I remember my ex husband, who I left because he was part of the problem, saying that his mate 'said he had depression' after his heart attack but Paul had taken him to a vineyard and they'd had a laugh so he clearly didn't have depression. I mean how off the planet is that?
I knew perfectly well that John had severe depression and I also knew why - closet homosexual. Married for thirty years, has heart attack so life nearly ends without ever having been fully realised? Dear god his horror was worse than mine. I could leave my husband but he couldn't leave his 'heterosexuality'. What a nightmare.
