You should definitely consult with a lawyer, just so he can tell you ALL of your options. Too bad it is not set up in a trust, nobody can touch anything in a trust, but I believe if she is already in care and isn't coming back, it may be too late. Definitely talk to an attorney, he can give you options and suggestions about what you should do. I'm sorry you have to go through this, I know how it feels to be overwhelmed!

I guess what I am wondering is if the house is put in your name will you have the income to pay all the monthly bills plus annual property taxes?
If not then selling the house and renting may be your best bet.

They go back 5 years unless the house was sold to another private party. They won't let it happen. I have been there. You really need a lawyer to at least tell you the rules and your options. It may cost you $150, but better than thousands down the road!

Kiddo do not future f*&% yourself about this thing but it is time to get something going in having your own income....can you qualify for SSD? Would doctor support that decision? as for getting mom to include you on her title to the house it sounds as if there is not going to be income unless you start something now to get SSDI or working....how much school is left? Can you start within your field of college working in that type career part time to point you graduate and then move up?

I am sorry I know that care for parents is something I could never have done financially...they cared for me into my mid 50s nasty as that sounds I could buy Mom new BMW in repaying debt I owe her....she is not asking me to pay it back but her money is going out fast at 91.....she is not as wealthy as I thought that she would be after dad died...he had very little in life insurance on him because he retired from Prudential at 55 and they took his benefit of free life insurance away....but dad was very frugal and could save and save for everything he idealize was on the saving side of money...me opposite spend everything you have paycheck to paycheck....ouchie for me retiring but I did go on SSDI in 2013....

I agree that you need to get a lawyer. Medicaid will eat up all your mom's assets (including the house) when the money runs out.

My cousins went through a similar experience with their mother. So, they gave the house (as a gift) to someone else...so that Medicaid could not touch the house.

Is there anybody in the family you trust whose name you could put the house in? Of course, you would need Power of Attorney to do this (I thinkI) but you need to protect your assets.

Please don't worry about being homeless. There is a lot of help out there. I'm sorry for your situation.
