I'm 62, disabled - have MS, 3 mini stokes, 2 conconcusions, so my left side is paralized and use a power wheelchair. I'm divorcedc 10 years after 30 years of marriage because he couldn'tt take it that I was in a wheelchair. I moved far away from him 4 years ago and have a boyfriend for 2 years. So - what's my problem you say? Well he has COPD but doctor said ok but he always feels tired, headache, you name it!   His apartment - so he says - is a mess and hasn't done his laundry in a month. Tonight, he is unshaven and stinks! (lazy?)  My  kids live - one a boy  -   20 minutes away and a girl 20 minutes the other way. I have not seen my son 33 and his girlfriend  in 6 months  (I asked if did something wrong n says no just busy) , and see my daughter 37 and my grandchildren - 4 and 1 - every other week. My halloween decorations are down outside in a pile and the box inside on my living room floor. Boyfriend said he'll do it weeks ago. I'mdone with decorating for the holiday!! No Christmas tree this year!!

I’m really sorry. You must miss your kids whom you aren’t getting to spend much time with. I can see why you’d be frusterated with your boyfriend. He might be dealing with depression if he is unable to keep up with hygiene and simple daily tasks. Don’t know a lot about COPD to know if there is a link there... but my main point I want to get across is that you are a certified badass. To deal with everything you have dealt with-shitty ex, physical conditions, your current situations. You are incredible. I hope you can talk with your boyfriend about how he’s making you feel. I hope your kids know what a great mother you are. I hope you know how strong you are.

Wow i can relate...i hate the holidays...cant wait til Jan 1st arrives...im 63 healthy but alone...just me and my cat...came from a big family but most have passed....1 child 39 who is an addict in denial...and only contact with her is an occasional ph call...dont know where she is if she is ok living on street or what....She never tells me the truth....

Agree. Holidays can be very hard when you're not well. Are you eligible for any help with services (like housekeeping)? I am going to hire someone, even though I really can't afford it because I'm having a group over for Christmas eve.
So far the holidays ahead only seem to bring family conflict, huge expectations and dread. I'm going to try to put myself first, but that CAN be hard for all of us.
For you, it seems like getting your place cleaned up might be a nice gift for you.
Hoping that you get to see you daughter and her kids over the holidays. As for your boyfriend, COPD can be quite difficult. My father had it and was on oxygen etc. But still, there must be something that can be done to deal with the hygiene issues. I would see what kind of services that the two of you might be eligible for.
