Today I was talking to someone and I said I don't believe in anything, don't believe in god or the devil or heaven, and she said "well you believe in depression, if you didn't believe in it you wouldn't have it. She thinks that a person can't really have a chemical embalance that we can cure ourselves with meditation, wish it was that easy. KnOw I feel bad about getting upset with her

Perhaps the trick to getting along with this person is to avoid those two subjects.
Is really off. I can understand why you are upset but trust me she is way off.
You can't compare having a religious belief which is just a personal opinion to having a medical problem which really exists.
It's apples and oranges.
Depression is real. It is something tangible. You see it. Feel it. It exists. There is evidence for it. Images/ scans of the brain show brains with depression are different to those that don't have it.
Depression responds to medications because something is askew in the brain. And the medication can help that imbalance.
Obviously your friend doesn't believe depression is a real condition but that is what some people say about fibromyalgia and that's another one of those conditions that people can get bitchy about.
Scientific research are finding that fibromyalgia has something to do with the neurological system and something in the brain.
