Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've been depressed over a breakup for a while now, and yes ok, I might even be slipping into some of my old patterns of my depression times. But today I ACTUALLY got out of the house and ran some errands that had needed to be done, and got a funny movie. So I'm watching the movie and my roommate comes home and is just beyond happy. Laughing OUT LOUD at the funny parts which are funny but not that funny. Then her boyfriend comes over and I literally cannot be around her when she is with him. She is so happy, shouldn't I just be happy for her? No... I'm irritated. I'm fighting back tears because I'm not over my ex. It's not that they are rubbing it in my face or anything, I think I put up a pretty good front and can hide things well so I don't think they know that I'm in so much pain. It's also not that I want her life. Despite all the pain that I'm in right now I don't want to be her. I like who I am. I'm in a bad place right now but I know it will get better. It is just that right now REALLY REALLY SUCKS, and I find being around my HAPPY HAPPY roommate very irritating. Does that make me a bad person? I'm glad she is happy but I can't be around it... Ugh...

I've been there! Sounds totally normal to me. As long as you keep your behavior in check and you're honest about your feelings it will pass. Of course seeing a happy couple is a trigger... hang in there, it will get easier with a little time.

It doesn't make you a bad person, at all. I feel the same way around certain people, which is why I stopped hanging out with them as much. I'm sure it's hard to avoid her since she's your roommate though. It will pass. Break ups can be rough, but it gets better. Just keep yourself busy, like you did today. I find keeping busy to be really helpful when dealing with depression, even though it can be really hard to get motivated.

No, it doesn't make you a bad person but it does make you a jealous person because she has what you want so badly. Taking her happiness away is not going to make your pain any easier. I think I have asked you this before but have you gone through the 5 stages of grief? Until you do that and come to the realization that it's time to move on, by yourself for now, then you are going to be jealous, irritated, and miserable. Be happy for your friend because that can be you again one day. Happiness doesn't just pop up over night, it takes time, patience, and the ability to let go of the past. I know you can do it, mainly because you are able to acknowledge your faults and what you need to do. You are a good person. It's time for you to be happy again. Hugs GB
