Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My son is almost 18 and my daughter 15. I can't imagine treating either one like that.
Parents should be there for their kids. Unfortunately too often they're more concerned how they look like to other people out there in the community to care about their own kids.
Heartfelt hugs, Patti
I know you are new here ... and you have done a good job of getting started. Hopefully you can clarify and detail your situation enough where we can offer some real suggestions.
Do you live with anyone at home except your husband? If Mom turned her back on you, turn you on hers.
Seek all the help you need ... physically and emotionally from the medical profession. Seems that is the source for managing some of the most serious problems. Of course, you are welcome here too ... and we will do our best to give support.
If you cannot work, and have not already done so, go to www.ssa.gov and educate yourself on making a DISABILITY CLAIM. Success will get you a monthly income check AND Medicare. THE ONLY THING that may prevent success is if or how much your husband earns. That would be the FIRST question you need an answer to. There is a phone number you can call to probably get an answer.
IF you file a claim, .. it will PROBABLY be denied. This is VERY common. When that happens, you get a lawyer who specializes in such claims. He will APPEAL the decision and help you IMMENSELY. You must have a denied claim first. The lawyer gets paid ONLY if you 'win'. You are then paid RETROACTIVELY to when you filed ... denial or not and then monthly thereafter. There is a CAP on how much he gets paid. I think it is about $5,000. It usually is covered in the first retroactive pmt.
Does this help you with pain? I don't know ... not a neurologist, but nothing wrong with a monthly income check and having Medicare benefits.
Now, on the neuralgia. Here is what I found:
"Because of the variety of treatment options available, having trigeminal neuralgia doesn't necessarily mean you're doomed to a life of pain. Doctors usually can effectively manage trigeminal neuralgia with medications, injections or surgery."
Whoever told you there is 'no cure', .. and they MAY be right ... but with Medicare, you should be able to get affordable second OPINIONS, and even surgery if you are encouraged by a doctor to do so. SS Disability COULD lead you to effective treatment. (one step at a time).
If husband can't deal with 'it all', don't ask or expect him to. I am sure you love each other. If he can't, ... he can't.
I know I am not suggesting anything that is earth shakeingly exciting .. but it CAN'T hurt to look into all this. It all DOES represent a BENEFIT to you.
Good luck, .. and if you end up with any questions, message me and I will try to answer.
I hope you can get this resolved and go ahead and gain those SS benefits.
