Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I understand how you feel. The gaining weight could be due to you depression and/or medication you are taking. I hated gaining weight and then not having the money to by clothes that fit. I guess that is one of the reason I isolate as much I do. I was to ashamed to go out in public. Well that, just don't like being in public. My stress level is to high. But, the clothes thing didn't help either. It makes you feel like nothing.
First thing first. You have to take care of you in order to take care of your child. Are you eating right? Do you get any exercise? ( It is not impossible to exercise in the house.) ( Just don't do jumping jacks if you in you live in a mobile home! lol)
Are you able to just sit outside and get some fresh air and sunshine for a few minutes every day? That always helps my mood.
Well, I recently lost 50 lb by cutting out diet coke, processed food. sugar, salt. red meat, eggs and coffee. Oh yeah, and I just about quit smoking. I am down to about 2 or 3 a day as opposed to 1 to 2 packs a day. I don't strictly adhere all of it, but do for the most part (85) of my diet I do cheat and I am not going to beat myself up over it. .
I walk to the school everyday to get my grand daughter and that has turned into a wonderful outing for the baby and me. . I love to go out in the morning and watch the birds and squirrels playing. These are the things that I do to work on me. Look around and see if you can find small things to fit into your life to make big changes over time.
I still have a way to go, like 30 more pounds to be back to where I was prior to my long term major depression that I didn't think I was ever going to come out from under. Good luck to you. Remember, take care of you so you can take care of your child!
One thing to remember is that most people are much more interested in their own lives and won't be taking much notice of you,so don't worry too much about how you look. Good old baby steps are so good. I congratulate myself if I change the beds....or vacuum,or hang the washing out... Perhaps you can do the same. Fresh air does help. A short walk, taking in things around you..
I hope things improve for you.
