Yes, I have had jobs that have sucked the life out of me, and made 1 day seem like a week. But I love to make goals and accomplish them. Perhaps you could reward yourself for every week you stay at your job. Doesn't have to be expensive or cost any money, just do something that makes you happy.
6 months will get you into July - a gorgeous time of year to retire!

NewDrake, I feel your pain, all too well. I like SYG's idea. Set your retirement date in July and just "keep your eye on the prize."

My last job just drove me over the bend and I'm now on disability.

Not to add more to the misery, but why does work life have to be this way? I really don't know anybody who enjoys their job and is happy and treated well at work. So sad...

Try to hang in there. In the big scheme of things, six months isn't that long.

I'd polish up and begin sending out that resume. Life's too short to be miserable because of work or anything else. What good's money if you're too spiritually dead and getting too physically sick to enjoy it?

Absolutely, a job, that place where we spend so much time every week to make a buck, can add to our depression. If we enjoy our job, it can lift our depression and bring joy. The issue is making best use of TIME, that invisible commodity, that none of us knows how much of we've got.

I was working full-time as a security officer for awhile when the economy was dirt-poor, and it too drained my very soul. Now, thankfully, my wedding videography business has returned, so I'm not only making more money but I'm seeing people when they're HAPPY, which is quite naturally boosting my own mood. I'm still keeping the security officer job, just to hedge my best and diversify myself economically in case there's another economic downturn, but I'm working it MUCH, MUCH LESS, maybe two days a week, if that, because my videography business is taking more and more of my time, which is good.

Heads up and keep looking for something else to do that you might be more passionate about, that adds to your positive emotional well-being. Get that lovin' feelin' back!

Im in the process of retiring from a job for exactly the same reasons. No job is worth destroying my mental health for. I also wish I had left under better circumstances. You have to do what works best for you financially, and emotionally.

I know my bf worked in a very depressing and horrible place to work, it made him very ill and he left eventually, but his boss was a a hole. maybe if your boss is pleasant talk to him just explain your finding it hard to work there. Maybe get help from doctors and get a sick note hugs

A job can be the cause of your depression besides just increasing it. I quit a decent job to try new car sales and what a complete freaking mistake!!!
I am now working a fairly crappy although decent paying job and it is bringing depression on very quickly. I hope things work out for you and best of luck :)

I have spent a large part of my life at that plant. Too many people I've worked with have died of cancer and other tragedies. The one thing that keeps coming back is the memory of the young electircal contractor that was electrocuted in front of me 22 years ago. I just can't shake him. Jimmy was only 31 with a young wife and an infant son. It was just so tragic. There are decisions being made to save money that may one day put other young people in harms way. I just don't think I could stand being there if something like that happens.

Ah, yes, burnout comes in many forms, Dear One. Though I am not near retirement age, I, too, have been burnt out and fed up. My suggestion matches Gerry's , however, find the solution that best meets your financial, physical and emotional well being best. Sending you much strength, courage, love and hugs.

I'm so sorry your job is making you more depressed. Wish I had an easy answer for you. Maybe you could look for another job----?

Newdrake, I did exactly what you want to do......retire. I'm so grateful I was able to take early retirement. I worked all my life and loved it. Unfortunately, the place where I worked became a very toxic work environment. Many of my colleagues left as well. It was a nightmare. I understand what you're going through and wish you the very best of luck.

I don't understand why so many jobs with such H horrible boss. Is your boss younger 35 years? Is this issue due to the age of 5 he boss?
Or is it due to the attitude of being a throw away society that demands more and more for less, causing companies to cut corners?

I stayed in a office settings that wasn't healthy for me for close to two years, I finally sad enough was enough. I would go home crying and that's not a way to live. We are so sensitive we just can't hand any job.
