When is it more than depression?

I've been depressed for so long that I barely remember not having it. A few years ago I developed anxiety which has been snowballing. I can barely leave the house. I can't see friends. I get paranoid. I also have vivid dreams and sometimes have hypnopompic/hypnotropic hallucinations, which are terrifying. I alternate between insomnia and sleeping too much (I take nothing artificial to affect my sleep). Sometimes I can't stop fidgeting or otherwise freaking out during the day. Twitching, jerking, stretching, I can't handle being still...it's not me. I'm worried that it's all turning into something worse. I am getting help soon, but not for another week or so. I guess I'm just afraid in the mean time. I've been to the doctor before, but it didn't help. I'll be seeing a psychiatrist for the first time in over 15 years. I hope it helps :(

Hi Luna113. I can really relate to questioning if there is something more serious going on with me than depression and anxiety. I keep feeling like I'm spiraling downwards and literally losing my mind. I too, have an extremely difficult time being around people. I've spent a lot of time alone the past 4 years and as difficult as it is I've found the more I'm around people the easier its becoming. But still really, really hard. Hopefully seeing a psychiatrist will help, but maybe it would help too if you force yourself to be around people more frequently. Maybe a support group with people struggling with the same things? Or a card game on weekends with friends? Find something you used to enjoy and set a goal to spend some time each week socializing in some way. Not sure if this helps. I'm sorry you're struggling. Yes, it might be physiological, related to the central nervous system. Your body has gotten so used to being anxious that it now manifests nervousness in the form of twitching, etc., as a normal occurrence.

If you could get over the fear of being touched by another's hands, would you be open to some type of therapeutic massage?

I hope your treatment helps too. I am terrified to see psychiatrist also. I'm still in process of making appointment. It will be first time I see one in over maybe 7 years. You definitely need to see one, though, you've been depressed for so long!

Sorry these things are happening . :(

I hope no one will find it necessary to pick a pdoc out of the phone book or accept someone a big, impersonal clinic assigns. It is often a thankless job; as a social work student I heard a good deal. The good ones are simply amazing and the grumps among them are...controlling ppl.

I've had good luck, myself. Now, Luna and Eshaw -- and Foundlove -- I hope you can find doctors who will take you seriously. . :)

I HAVE SUFFERED CLINICAL DEPRESSION SINCE 1986 AND HAVE HAD PANIC ATTACKS THAT LONG TOO.
IT SEEMS SINCE MY BRAIN SURGERY, I HAVE MORE ANXIETY.
MAYB ITS BECAUSE I M FACING MY SENIOR YEARS AND ALL THAT.
MEDICARE, NURSING HOMES, MY HUBBY IN THE FUTURE PASSING AWAY, MY NOT BEING ABLE 2 DRIVE ANYMORE , NOT BEING ABLE 2 DO THE THINGS I USED TOO B4 THE SURGERY.
I M SO OVERWHELMED WITH IT ALL...............................
IF IT WERE NOT 4 THE LORD, I DONT KNOW HOW I COULD COPE WITH ALL THESE ISSUES.

it is very good you are seeing a psychiatrist ...and you muct tell him or her exactualy everything that is going on with you so you can get the help you need and so they can give you the help you need ...I have had hallucinations ...at times when I was very depressed ..and probuly schould of been in the hospital ..I herd voices to ..the sleeping disorders I had as well ...right now for the first time I have just had to start taking sleeping pills but I have gon dowen from two to one ..and soon I will be off them ...I have been house bound ware like you I could not leave the house only with my husband ....i couldent even go on my portch ..and when my h was gone to work I couldent even have the curtains open ..I dident want anyone looking at me and I dident want to look at any one ..there were time when someone would come to the door and I would hid n my room and not answer the door ......it took a lot of work to get out of that ................hang on ....the help will come ...take care ..I will keep you in my prayers ...God bless
