Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi guys, I'm new here and honestly need someone to understand.
I was brought up in an abusive household for 11 years of my life where I start struggling with mental health issues at the age of 12. I was self harming and was always low. I wasn't allowed to go to the doctor about my feelings as the woman I lived with didn't believe in mental health.
I am 19 now and have been suffering all my life, I recently took myself to the doctor and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. I'm a Christian and i spoke to my church about stuff but even they disregard me and say it's not important and that people are worse than me. I already know that.
i just wanna scream, I don't know how I feel about my life anymore. Everything is too confusing.

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...

A Therapist will help you learn how to cope with what you've been through, they'll teach you healthy new coping skills. Self harm, cutting is a Learned Behavior, so it can be replaced with other healthy behaviors. A Therapist will help you learn ways to deal with all of the emotions and feelings and stuff thats in your head.
You can survive this and be the awesome young woman you are with a great future. What you were put through does not have to define you. Its hard work, I won't even joke about that, but you can do it, you can get your life back, and you can make a future for yourself that will be what you want it to be. I know this because I have 2 awesome son's who are wonderful caring, compassionate human beings who love their community, love to help others and make me so proud....the many times I planned my own death to escape the hell I lived in, I never pictured that in my future.
So, you can make it through this. Don't add extra stress to yourself, you don't have anything to prove to people in your Church. God does not require you to be in a Church for his love, "where 2 or more are gathered, I will be there" was what he said about those who worshipped him.
Take care, find a Therapist, if you can't afford a private Dr. or don't have Insurance, call your County or Cities Social Services and ask about Mental Health Services.

I am always amazed at the work my son has done with this woman and how the issue of faith is not the main focus. She is all about loving others and that is the kind of church you need to find for yourself.
