I've noticed many posts with "warning trigger" in the topic. I'll admit, I'm confused. What exactly is a trigger and how does one recognize whether one's post is one?
For instance, for someone who has dealt with rape, a post put up concerning the topic could be triggering (make them have flashbacks, etc).
It can also be as easy as a topic about, say, dragonflies. That used to trigger me because of a personal experience.
IMHO I think "trigger" can be very subjective as I would never expect someone to put a trigger warning about dragonflies but people expect trigger warnings on the more serious subjects I guess.
I think trigger warnings are more of a courtesy than anything else. And like Kaino said, it is very subjective. However, for the big subjects [like murder, rape, suicide, SI], a trigger warning is always helpful.
I totally understand about SI....thankfully I have a bit of a handle on it as far as things triggering me go. I'm so sorry you go through this, it's a tough thing to deal with.
