Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
2. Eat well.
3. Exercise properly (enough).
4. Inform your doctor of your depression.
4. Get a 'good' check up from that doctor.
5. Concentrate on your academic goals.
6. Try to present a friendly and outgoing person.
7. Do not isolate. Get 'out and about'.
8. Ask questions here on DS. There are many supportive people here.
9. Treat yourself VERY well. Do things you like to do even if it seems strange (but remain safe, reasonable, and responsible).
10. Know that you deserve happiness .. so create some.
When life does not seem to provide happiness .. you must look to yourself .. what is 'in there', .. and love it. This results in happiness WITH YOURSELF .. which you can build on.
If you have a roof over your head, and food on the table, that's very much something to be thankful for. If you're fairly healthy, that's another huge thing to be thankful for.
Try not to fall for all of the Christmas type. Even though a lot of people you see during this time of the year are walking around singing "Jingle Bells" (including me), you'd be horrified to hear some of those people share what they're actually dealing with in their lives.
Being alone doesn't have to be a negative thing, hon - especially if you enjoy your own company. What you need to feel better is already inside of you, hon. Happiness and peace of mind comes from within. You give it to yourself - no one can give it to you. Even they COULD give it to you, at some point, they'd most likely end up taking it back. That's what's so great about it - you are the only person that can make yourself feel better in any kind of meaningful way.
Hang in there - the holiday season isn't easy to get through sometimes.
Hugs,
Janice
Sure you do. Clinical/major depression is a treatable ILLNESS. If you have it, you MUST 'hook up' with a medical doctor.
>>I use to take depression meds when I was in the mental Hospital but I had to quit taking them.
Dunno why you had to quit .. but MOST people with this kind of depression are on meds for life (not all .. but most).
If you were on meds .. and no longer are ... then I WOULD SAY that is your biggest problem .... but with an obvious solution.
